Background to the LP
Free Your Mind was the second single to be lifted from the LP and is a song constructed with Chicago House synths and vocal harmonies which captures but updates the sound from the 80’s to the 10’s (?!).
Love Is Blind was the first single and was put together during the early part of 2010 and was very much a candidate for a single. The sound is mellow house with a snatch of a jazzy tinge to it.
Gamalan was recorded around 2011 and was destined to be included on a set of instrumental songs that the band were working on but there was a feeling that the female vocals and “dancey“ pace of the song made it more a fit for a standard commercial LP.
Blow Me Away has been around since 2009 and was worked on when the band recorded most of ‘Walking Back To Jazziness’ LP, hence it could have had a slower set of rhythms at one point but was re-worked to a 125bpm rate.
Pumpin' Rhythm is another older song recorded during the WBTJ set but this was always a house genre piece with bristling piano lines and bass beats.
Minimum is a much newer piece of work from 2012 and combines the slower element of club style music with additional mixed percussion and synths.
I Needed To Dance was recorded way back in 2009 during the run up to the release of the ‘A Night On The Town’ and ‘Club’ LPs. This is of course the inspiration for the album title and the song’s male vocal lead and other vocals give it a real punch. Released in two different versions as a single with “Bring Back Your Love” this is the heart of the album.
Bring Back Your Love was recorded back in 2010 and has been through several different incarnations until reaching the point of becoming an instrumental begging a vocal. The band however decided to add only a small vocal mix which appears on the single release as a demo. This really is a fantastic piece of dance music.
Thieves In The Night was one of the last pieces recorded for this album. This song is an instrumental with lavish synth lines and a smooth rocking beat blended with percussive elements to take you on a smooth ride.
What Will You Do? Is probably the oldest song recorded here as it comes from around 2008 when it was recorded alongside some of the ANOTT LP songs. Re-worked time and time again it finally gets an airing on this LP in it’s smoother more Chicago House style sound. The sampled vocals have additional harmonies and backing vocals that work so well with this soulful voice.
